As a boudoir photographer, I’ve always been passionate about capturing the intimate and empowering moments that make women feel amazing. But it wasn’t until I turned 40 that I decided to step in front of the camera myself. Here’s why I chose to do a boudoir session and why it took me over three years to talk about it.

Why I Decided to Do a Boudoir Session

Turning 40 was a major milestone, and I wanted to celebrate it in a way that felt truly special. I chose a boudoir session as a way to honor and embrace who I am now. This experience gave me a new perspective on what my clients go through, from the initial excitement to the final reveal. Having my adult daughter take my photos made it even more meaningful. It was incredible to see her involved in the process and understand the powerful impact of a boudoir session firsthand. This wasn’t just about me; it was also about helping her appreciate and grasp the empowerment that comes from embracing oneself through photography.
It also helped that we had a REAL FLOWER installation from E’s Florals in Solon that I HAD to take photos with. It was totally my style!

How I Felt During and After the Shoot

Going into the shoot, I didn’t overthink things. I chose my wardrobe from my incredible client closet the morning of the session, which kept me focused on enjoying the moment rather than worrying about it. The experience was a mix of excitement and nerves, which I’m sure many of my clients feel too. As the session unfolded, I began to feel a profound sense of liberation. Seeing myself through the lens in a new light was incredibly empowering. If you’re feeling nervous about a boudoir session, know that these feelings are completely normal. You might find, just as I did, that the experience leaves you with a deep sense of pride and a fresh appreciation for your own beauty.

Why It Took Me 3+ Years to Share

While sharing a few photos here and there was easy, fully articulating how I felt during the session was a bit more challenging. I often feel like I’m not the best with words, and it took me time to find the right way to express the depth of my experience. I didn’t plan every detail far in advance, which actually helped me stay relaxed and present during the shoot. It also meant that I didn’t have the chance to overthink or worry about it. Reflecting on the experience took time, but I wanted to ensure that when I shared it, I could truly convey its significance. By taking this time, I’ve been able to offer my clients genuine insights and support, helping them feel more at ease and confident in their own sessions.

        Conclusion —

My boudoir session at 40 was a meaningful way to celebrate myself and understand my clients’ experiences more deeply. It was also a special opportunity to include my daughter in the process, letting her see and appreciate the transformative power of boudoir photography. Although it took me a few years to fully express my feelings about the session, the wait allowed me to offer a more thoughtful perspective. If you’re considering a boudoir session, remember it’s about celebrating your unique journey and embracing your beauty. I’m here to guide you through every step, ensuring your experience is as empowering and transformative as mine was. Let’s create something beautiful together!
